Legislative Alert – Hawaiian Immersion Assessment Bill (SB778) Scheduled for House Hearing: March 25, 2015

Legislation introduced by Senator Shimabukuro has been scheduled for a hearing before the House Committee on Education.

SB778 SD2 HD1 would require and appropriates funds for the Department of Education to develop an assessment in the Hawaiian language of established statewide performance standards for students in the ka papahana kaiapuni program by the 2020-2021 school year, and requires reports to the Legislature.

The deadline to submit testimony is Tuesday, March 24, 2015, at 2:00 p.m.

Although late testimony can be submitted on the day of the hearing, testimony submitted less than 24 hours prior to the hearing may not be posted online or distributed to the committee prior to the convening of the public hearing. In-person testimony is also accepted for those present during the hearing. In both cases of late testimony, it is recommended that testifiers bring enough hard copy testimony for all committee members.
