Aloha Honorable Senators, fellow staff, and guest,

The topic that was chosen for today’s moment of contemplation is ‘how we can change the world.’

Although, I am not an elected official here at the state capitol, I was forged by and cast into leadership and my community’s political beehive at the age of 12 and attained a great amount of knowledge. From high school to military service to college, I have learned that the secret to getting things done have and has always been ‘synergy.’ To collaborate, to cooperate, and to interact.

I understand that as politicians you believe things may be in conflict with each other or they appear opposite.

Our tendency may be to rule things out as opposed to making a connection.

However, I find that many times there is value to bringing things together that don’t look like they go together at all, yet they may be connected someway, somehow at a deeper level.

The importance of our personal life’s grounded in contemplation combined with action as public servants in the world helps us to find a fixed place to stand as one and a point of critical distance to discover those devices that help us to move our world towards betterment.

Whether you are people of Hawaii or for Hawaii, with ‘synergy’ we can trust in one another other to carry us beyond the limits of our own abilities, and in return we hope that clarity, goodwill, and truth will prevail.
