Helping Hawaii’s Families Sleep a Little Better!
(Posted July 22, 2014)

Over 40 different nonprofit groups — including churches, schools, shelters, clean & sober homes and halau — banded together this week to distribute over 6 tons of linens, pillows, blankets and towels to Oahu families in need. From the homeless in Waianae to the shelters in Kalaeloa and Kahala, to the flood victims in Waialua, volunteers loaded vans, trucks and car trunks to help ohana in need.

Pastor Jerrell Tate from the Abundant Life Christian Fellowship says, “Helping the homeless is a family affair!” as his grandson and wife helped load the back of their truck. The Waianae Comprehensive Health Center will also be servicing the homeless along with treatment centers and shelters in West Oahu.

Kumu Kanani Oliveira advised she is providing linens to families that have no beds, stating “They sleep on the floor so they have more room for the family to sleep together.”

Aunty Eileen from Queen Liliuokalani Church of Haleiwa is a true blessing — she and Uncle John will be distributing linens to members of their community.

Ms. Cathy from Waialua Elementary Kindergarten hopes the clean sheets will help families that were flooded out by the weekend storms, explaining that “Every little bit helps when you’re recovering from a disaster.”

Hawaii Furniture Bank extends a warm aloha to our generous donors and the many volunteers that give selflessly of their time and resources to help those in need.

Attached are a few photos from today’s distribution. I’ll be posting more photos on our web site as I receive them from team members completing deliveries to senior housing, shelters, etc.

On behalf of our very grateful recipients, let me extend a very warm mahalo nui loa!

Please contact me if we can make a difference in helping the families in your community!
