full-time, tenure track, general funds, 11-month, beginning approximately 09/13, pending availability of funds and actual staffing requirements.

Duties: Under general supervision of the Dean of Student Services and in close collaboration with the Academic Coordinator of LCC-Waianae, responsible for providing information, assistance, guidance, and support to students at LCC-Wai`anae.  The Counselor will function as an integral team member within the LCC-Wai`anae Unit.  This position will include evening and weekend hours on and off campus. 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to assisting students with admissions and application process, orientation, and registration; advising students with regard to academic and career planning; providing students with financial aid and scholarship information and assistance in completing forms; performing graduation checks; recruiting potential students by providing outreach to Wai`anae Coast high schools and the Wai`anae Coast community; providing career and vocational exploration, testing, and counseling for current and prospective students; providing follow-up counseling for students to increase student retention and persistence; connecting students with appropriate academic support resources; teaching student success workshops and courses as needed; planning and implementing workshops for students and informational sessions for prospective students and community; working as a team member with LCC-W staff, faculty, and partner organizations to ensure student and program needs are met; participating in LCC-W and LCC campus faculty/staff committees as appropriate; communicating and meeting with student services faculty and staff on LCC main campus for information and support.

Other Duties: Perform related work as assigned, including, but not limited to, serving on institutional and system-wide committees, participating in community service, pursuing in service training; and other programs of professional self improvement; collecting data and preparing reports; assisting in the planning, implementing, revising, and improving of programs and services under the Student Services Division, including Division objectives and program targets. Conduct course assessment and other assessment of instruction based on student learning outcomes, and improve student learning based on result of assessment data.

Minimum qualifications:
Master’s Degree in Counseling and Guidance, Counseling Psychology, College Student Personnel Services, Human Resources (to include both CTAHR and Personnel), Communications, or related field; OR Bachelor’s degree in Counseling and Guidance, Counseling Psychology, College Student Personnel Service, Human Resources (to include both CTAHR and Personnel), Communications, or related field and three (3) years related work experience. Minimum qualifications must be met by the effective date of appointment.

Desirable qualifications: Experience counseling and advising traditional and non-traditional students in post-secondary or adult education setting; experience teaching courses for student success and/or women in transition; experience in working with Native Hawaiians in a community or educational environment; knowledge of community college and university programs college application processes; financial aid and scholarship processes; student support and academic resources; knowledge of career pathways (secondary to post-secondary) for career and technical education; ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally with a wide variety of audiences; and to relate well to students and prospective students, especially in individual and small group meetings; ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment; to handle multiple tasks concurrently; to analyze problems and develop effective solutions; ability to maintain accurate records as needed for monitoring and evaluation purposes; to use computer programs that include word processing, spreadsheets.

Pay range: C2A; minimum $4,612/month.
