Tropical Storm Flossie was maintaining its strength late this afternoon, threatening to unleash tropical storm conditions to the Big Island starting late tonight, then bringing heavy rains, strong winds, dangerous surf and flash flooding throughout the Hawaiian islands.

Oahu emergency officials offer advice, warnings for residents

The city Department of Emergency Management is advising Oahu residents that the just-issued tropical storm warning for the island means it is the time to get prepared for Flossie’s expected arrival Monday afternoon.

At 11 a.m., the National Weather Service placed Oahu under the warning that already covered Maui and Hawaii counties. The warning means tropical storm conditions, including sustained winds of 39 mph or more and heavy rains, are expected in the next 36 hours.
