15 Year Old Autistic Youth in Need of Foster Parents

Aloha,

I am resending this in the hopes that you may know someone in Mililani who would and could foster a 15 year old autistic male. The social worker for him sent this info today:

The boy’s teacher, skills trainer and behavioral specialist all report that the youth is nonverbal but very mild, mellow and is definitely not aggressive at all. He follows direction but does need one on one as he loses focus like all youths with autism. He can sign the following: finished, bathroom, eat and more. He is about 5’6″. His teacher and behavioral specialist are hoping that he can stay at Mililani HS as they have had him since he was in the first grade. If youth gets over stimulated, he will laugh and hum. If he does not get his way, he can cry loudly but is not aggressive. Because he is nonverbal, he sometimes will pull the teacher’s arm to get her attention but has no intention to hurt her. They reported that he is a very easy, autistic youth.

Again, please let me know if you can think of a family who can care for this child. A family does not need to be a foster family to step forward, the social worker could grant them a “special license”. Of course, they would have to be able to pass a background check and also do training at a later date.

For more information, contact the social worker, Carleen, at 832-5154 or 351-1331.

Judith

Purging of the Section 8 Waitlist

The Hawaii Public Housing Authority is in the process of purging its waitlist for the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program. We would appreciate your assistance in notifying any service providers that you work with who have clients on the Section 8 waitlist to respond timely. The process is fairly simple – they have answer 2 questions and mail the postcard back to HPHA by April 24th. Failure to respond will cause the HPHA to remove their name from the waitlist.
