Skopje Fortress which is commonly known as Kale Fortress.

Enjoy reading about it’s story below:

This illustration represents the Skopje Fortress which is commonly known as Kale Fortress. It is located in the capital town of Skopje анd it is situated on a high point overlooking the Vardar river and the city.
The first fortress was built in 6th century AD on a land that had been inhabited during the Neolithic and Bronze ages or roughly 4000 BC.
Sadly most of t was destroyed by an earthquake in 518. The current Fortress was built during the 10th and 11th centuries in the time of the Roman emperor Justinian I. Then it was used during the Otoman Empire and nowadays is a symbol of the town and then battles and victories proceeded from that fortress.
The use of the Fortress was mainly as a base in battles were most of the soldiers would hide and wait to attack the enemy because of its good strategic position in one of he highest points in the town.
Today it is one of the best touristic attractions because of its uniqueness and breathtaking view of the town.
