I am excited to announce that I am one of 22 legislators participating in the DOE Legislative Internship Pilot Program.

Nohealani Benicarlo & Anastazia McIntosh will learn about the legislative process this session at the capitol, where they will have more direct learning experiences of the legislature.

Nohealani is a Junior in Nanakuli High and Intermediate School. She is an active member of JROTC, National Honor Society, Interact Club, Design it Build it Launch it GHS program and cheerleading. We first met on January 16 when it was the Legislature opening day.

Suggested assignments  for the interns include: viewing training videos; watching hearings and floor sessions; tracking bills; reading testimony, bill-related news stories, and other materials; shadowing their legislator; maintaining a portfolio; attending 3 internship meetings; and writing bill briefs, testimony, and report on what they learned. Both students hail from Nānākuli Highschool.

Along with the two DOE Interns, we  are also lucky to have an Intenational exchange student from Macedonia. Ana Grozdev is currently a student at Nānākuli Highschool.

Ana’s Bio:

My name is Ana Grozdev I was born on 4th of January, 1996 in a town called Harare, Zimbawe Africa. My mother and father were leaving there for eight years before I was born, but six months after my birth we moved back to my country Republic of Macedonia.
Since I was in my early age I loved to write and to read my essays in front of big public which resulted with many certificates and diplomas for young public speaker.
My true passion is traveling and exploring new cultures. When I found out in my freshman year about an one year exchange program called YES(youth, exchange and study) financed by Kennedy Lougar and American department of State I was more than excited to participate. In my sophomore I applied and going trough many exams, essays and interviews I was chosen in the twelve finalists out of six hundred students that applied.
Currently I am living with my lovely host family the Pelekai family in Nanakulu and I attend Nanakuli High &Intermediate School where I am a junior.
I love exploring and learning the American and Hawaiian culture. It is a real honor and pleasure to live in this beautiful state.I will be living here till the end of this school year after which I fill return to my home country and share my experiences, make contributions to my community and try to improve it and of course continue with my education.
