Aloha Kakou,

It’s getting close for another Buffalo Big Board Surfing Classic, our 37th annual. This year we will run 14 events over five days of surfing, starting with the Presidents’ Day Weekend, Feb.16, 17 and 18 and, with surf permitting, ending up Feb. 23 and 24th. Our award ceremony will close out  the Classic during the afternoon of Sunday, Feb. 24.

As usual, with your help, we hope to give finalists the latest in surfing products. And in return, we will prominently display your banners on the judges’ stand and run mini-contests and raffles during the event to promote products.,

Being the oldest and most innovative surf contest on the planet, we draw surfers from many different walks of life, including bodysurfers, bodyboarders, alaia board surfers, paipo riders and Hawaiian canoe surfers. This year will be our second run of a very special event called the SUPsquatch. This new big big board surfing method is the invention of Brian Keaulana and caps the true meaning of the Classic, to enjoy the Hawaiian cultural way of family surfing.

We look forward to having you support our event. We have always been of mind — “the more the merrier.”

Mahalo nui loa. And please contact awards coordinator Bunky Bakutis at 808-479-5925 or just respond to this email (bakutisb@gmail.com). Attached is an entry blank showing all the different divisions, and a poster.

Again, thanks for your help,

Richard “Buffalo” Keaulana
