Dr. Steven Olbrich and Sen. Shimabukuro on the Senate Chamber Floor

Sen. Shimabukuro, Dr. Olbrich, and Rep. Jordan

Today it is my privilege to rise and congratulate an outstanding citizen of my district—Dr. Steven Olbrich.  He and his wife Janice are the publishers of Westside Stories—a monthly community newspaper mailed free of charge to all residents and businesses on the Wai’anae Coast.  This lively and informative publication has greatly enriched the lives of my constituents.

Dr. Olbrich was a professor of animal science at the University of Hawaii before he and Janice ventured into their own dairy enterprise in the Wai’anae Valley.  Twenty years later—convinced of the need for a way to communicate a sense of “Westside Pride”—they embarked on their journalistic venture.  For the past 14 years, their paper has featured the many good things that happen in our schools, churches and neighborhood organizations.

I—along with my Wai’anae Coast neighbors—consider myself fortunate to receive the good news that comes to our homes each month thanks to the dedication and perseverance of Steven and Janice, who provide this wonderful service to our community.

I am proud to join with my colleagues in the Senate today in congratulating Dr. Steven and Mrs. Janice Olbrich as they celebrate the 14th Anniversary of Westside Stories.  We wish them the very best in all their future endeavors.
