Testimony Needed for “Off-The-Grid” Housing, Sand Theft, & Hawaiian Immersion Bills

Off-The-Grid Housing Bill to be Heard 2/6/12

HB 2634, which requires DHHL to offer more vacant, infrastructure-free lots to beneficiaries, has been scheduled for hearing by the Hawaiian Affairs Committee (Chair, Rep. Faye Hanohano) and Water, Land & Ocean Resources Committee (Chair, Rep Jerry Chang) on Monday, February 6, at 9:00 am in Rm 325.

This is the House Companion to SB 2639, introduced by Senator Maile Shimabukuro.

Hawaiian Language Immersion Bill to be Heard 2/8/12

HB 2875 (companion to SB 3009), requires that HI State Assessment Tests (HSA) for Hawaiian Language Immersion students in grades 3-6 be given in Hawaiian rather than English.

It will be heard by the House Committee on Hawaiian Affairs, chaired by Rep. Faye Hanohano, on Wednesday, February 8 at 8:30 AM in Rm 329. You may submit testimony either in person or by e-mail at HAWtestimony@capitol.hawaii.gov

Sand Theft Bill to be Heard. 2/9/12

SB 2305, which eliminates the “one gallon per person per day” allowance for taking sand, is scheduled to be heard on Thursday, Feb 9, at 1:15 PM. The bill will be heard by the Senate Committee on Water, Land & Housing. Sen Donovan Dela Cruz is the Chair.
