Background information:

For the past 3 years, Sen. Shimabukuro, Women of Wai`anae, Nani O Wai`anae, Teach for America/Be the Change, the Wai`anae Boys & Girls Club, and many others have participated in efforts to improve the “People’s Path” along the Wai`anae Coast.  Volunteers conducted several pathway beautifications at Maili Point and Sewer’s Beach, and several individuals have dedicated themselves to continue the effort on a weekly basis.  Sen. Shimabukuro also obtained a $5,000 grant from AlohaCare to help support the effort.    (See posting re: Nani O Waianae April 26 Beach Clean-Up for more information on the “People’s Path.”)

In addition to the community’s efforts, and state has planned a “Leeward Bikeway”, which comes into the Wai`anae Coast and ends at Lualualei Naval Road.  Below is a map of the planned bikeway from the Department of Transportation (DOT) (Click on the map to enlarge).  Contact information for the DOT is also below.

Human Service Pep Rally at Hawaii State Capitol Jan. 24

From: Val Tavai valt@hcapweb.org

Aloha, everyone.

HCAP will be sponsoring a bus for the Human Service Pep Rally (led by PHOCUSED) on Tuesday, January 24th.

The bus will be leaving the Waianae Boat Harbor at 7:50 a.m. and coming back into Waianae between 2:00 p.m. /3:00 p.m.

We are trying to reach as many clients/volunteers/partners as possible to participate in this important event to let legislators and the public know that funding must be restored to human service programs.

Please let me know ASAP if you/your organization/clients would be interested in participating so that we can make arrangements for buses.  Lunch/snacks will be served.

Mahalo for your time.
