– Explore Japanese history, culture, and modern society
– Provide Hawaii students the opportunity to meet and interact with local students and families, as well as international, diplomatic, and businesses entities
– Visit Tokyo, Hiroshima, and Kitakyushu

Freeman Foundation Scholarships
Fifteen full scholarships, made possible by a generous grant from the Freeman Foundation, are available to Hawaii public and charter school students, and cover program expenses. Scholarships do not cover students’ personal expenses or accommodation and transportation on Oahu during orientation week.

Eligibility and Selection Criteria
– Hawaii high school students in grades 9‐12
– Demonstrated interest in global issues
– Ability to adapt to different cultures, people, and languages
– Academic achievement
– Demonstrated maturity and responsibility

Trip Dates and Information
– May 2012: Mandatory Parent Orientation
– June 4—8: Mandatory Pre‐Trip Orientation
– June 11—27: Travel to Japan
– Application will be available in November 2011 at, and must be postmarked by February 10, 2012.
