KITV4: Waianae Residents Vent Frustrations Over Past Flooding: Government Officials Host Town Hall Meeting (Sep. 29, 2011):
On Thurday night, residents packed Maili Elementary School’s cafeteria and listened as government officials laid out their plan to spend $11 million, set aside during the recent legislative session, to address these flooding concerns.
Area lawmaker [Sen.] Maile Shimabukuro said a large chunk will go to upgrading Farrington Highway and Lahilahi Street in Makaha, where the roadways disappear during heavy rains. The left over money will fix streams but Shimabukuro said the funds are in limbo.
“The hope is that these monies can be released by the departments and Gov. Neil Abercrombie, so the government agencies that is here tonight so they can start work,” said Shimabukuro.

I live on Manuku St, near Nukea St. and the flooding Makaha Stream, runs through my yard. My fear is that if I continue to lose land (I already have moved my fence), it could affect my house. Two doors from me, a neighbor had mud damage when the flood broke through from the “altered” Makaha Stream. A goat that a neighbor had put on my property drowned, when the land washed away. There is a storm drain that empties onto my property and it is under cutting my yard. Who can I contact about this? If they made the drain go out father, it would really help. I need for someone to examine this. Thank you, Maili.
