Maile with Dawn Homont in the Senate Chambers during the Hawaii State Senate's Education Week in March 2011

Our Hawaii public school system is greatly enriched by the contributions of hundreds of dedicated teachers and support staff.  While all are deserving of our admiration and gratitude, it is also fitting to acknowledge those who excel in their field and represent great hope for the future of education in our islands.

Dawn Homont—a physical education teacher at Wai’anae Intermediate School—is one such person.  As the recent recipient of the “Teacher of Promise” award, presented by the National Milken Educators of Hawaii, she has been recognized as a new teacher who demonstrates the highest qualities of professional educator.

The people of Wai’anae are indeed fortunate to have the services of Ms. Homont, whose expertise focuses on both the physical and intellectual well-being of our children.  With her help, our young people can learn to cultivate practices and habits that will ensure healthier lives as they move into adulthood.

For the Hawai State Senate’s 8th Annual Education Week, the Senate of the twenty-sixth Legislature joins with Wai’anae Coast residents and all of Hawaii’s people in congratulating Dawn Homont on winning this prestigious award.  We wish her a long and rewarding future in her chosen field of education.
