Hearing for Bill Introduced by Sen. Shimabukuro at the Request of Nanakuli Resident Chasid Sapolu

One of the bills is HB1577, the companion to a bill Senator Shimabukuro introduced at the request of Nanakuli resident Chasid Sapolu, who recently graduated from law school. The bill seeks to amend the Constitution to ensure that Hawai`i residents are not subjected to environmental injustice.

PROPOSING AN AMENDMENT TO ARTICLE XI, SECTION 9, OF THE CONSTITUTION OF THE STATE OF HAWAII TO REAFFIRM AND STRENGTHEN THE STATE’S COMMITMENT TO ENVIRONMENTAL RIGHTS.
Proposes an amendment to article XI, section 9, of the Constitution of the State of Hawaii to reaffirm and strengthen the State’s commitment to environmental justice for certain populations that are disproportionately impacted by harmful environmental actions. Click here to see the current status.
